The GF Duplex project is located on the main street of Salt, Girona.
The intervention focuses on the day area; a large main space is proposed where social uses can be maximized. The union of the hall, the living room, the dining room and the kitchen reflects this new model of living in a more functional and inclusive way. For this reason, the dividing walls were eliminated, in order to achieve a totally panoramic, open-plan space with plenty of natural light.
At the entrance to the house, we are greeted by a cozy hall, with a niche that is part of a large multipurpose piece of furniture, in which multiple functions are integrated: entrance hall, wardrobe, storage and access to the laundry room and bathroom.
The staircase and the set of elements that compose it are the central axis and where the different spaces of the day area are articulated: the office desk, storage, the firstssteps of stairs and the island. The metallic steps of the stairs has been executed with the utmost detail and precision, as if it were a unique and exclusive piece of sculpture. Although it is worked with iron, a heavy and cold material, it expresses total lightness and transparency and gives the home elegance, originality and personality. The main objective has been to create fluid transitions, with practical and intuitive routes, achieving totally free circulation on both sides of the kitchen and towards the dining and living area.
The "hidden" area (laundry room and day bathroom) has been reduced to the "minimum expression", while still meeting the established needs, its practicality and multifunctionality. Due to the small dimensions allocated to these rooms, a practical system of sliding doors has been chosen that favors the optimization of space to have generous storage capacities and hide the laundry room.
The night floor has been operated in a less interventionist way, but following the same aesthetic line as the day floor. In the master bedroom, a large walk-in closet has been created, which turns and continues with a small hall cabinet, which also integrates the entrance door. All the elements have been worked as a single piece. In the bathroom, a bench is raised from end to end, where the washbasin unit rests, and enters the shower area, where indirect lighting provides a more intimate and warm environment.
With regard to materiality, meticulous work has been carried out to achieve a fully balanced and timeless home, where natural wood has played a determining role. Both the vertical and horizontal walls, as well as the lacquered furniture and metal elements were finished with the same off-white to give a total harmony to the house. Thanks to the neutrality of tones and materials, it allows us to have the perfect canvas to be able to introduce subtle more colorful elements in the form of furniture and/or decorative accessories according to the client's tastes.
