For Dura Vermeer Bouw Midden West, up architecture designed a distinctive sustainable office interior on the top floor of the OKU office in Amsterdam which is being stripped down to the construction and built up to a BREEAM Excellent office building. This new inviting and future-proof Dura Hub allows its users to feel connected, empowered and comfortable within a dynamic, durable and inspiring environment.

Sustainability is not a feature — it’s a foundation. With a focus on doing what’s right (‘Het goede doen’), the design embraces circular principles: recycled materials, reuse of existing furniture, and building to BREEAM standards. Every choice reflects a commitment to lasting quality and responsible design.

Visibility, connection, and a strong sense of orientation define the user experience. The intuitive layout is dynamic and welcoming, encouraging interaction and supporting a natural flow. The design celebrates (the) construction by highlighting the outspoken structure of the building and by elevating artisanal materials to distinctive interior features. The emphasis on diverse traditional, tactile, and crafted materials in combination with the warmth of the natural colours and lush greenery bolsters the sense of a grounded, welcoming, and inspiring work environment.

OKU Office is part of a large-scale redevelopment around the World Fashion Centre. Over the past few years, the area surrounding Koningin Wilhelminaplein has been transformed into a vibrant, mixed-use urban district, featuring approximately 60,000 m² of new office space and around 600 residential units. It’s a lively place where living, working, and leisure come together.
