The residence of the Dutch ambassador in Beijing, consists of two wings: one accommodating the building’s official rooms, the other housing the am¬bassador’s private quarters. Both wings are orientated towards their own garden, and are simultaneously divided and connected to one another by a central winter garden. The most expressive feature of the residence is an elongated wall made of horizontal strips of natural stone of varying dimen¬sions that stretches beyond the building itself.
