Dwelling-workhouse HDT

Hoogte Twee as Architects

PARADOX Dwelling-workhouse is situated in a small quarter with free lots, which form the transition between an industry terrain and a housing estate. The brave five-persons family villa attracts attention in the middle of the surrounding standard houses, but has been created by a clear "image quality plan". The paradox between the freedom of design, with the clear "image quality plan" and the standard solutions, which are generally the results from this plan, form the basis for the development of the design, in which both extremes have been tested to each other continually. An hermetic, abstract volume is folded, moulded and shaped to a true strange, but imaginative speaking form, familiar with its tenants.

(BE)LIVEABLE SPACE The slanting roof levels and the slightly yielding fronts take care of a spatial dynamics which can be felt everywhere by the free plan. A bath furniture, lifted until just under the roof takes care for functional divisions and reinforces the spatial experiences.

INTROVERT / EXTRAVERT The apparent dark and closed mass has been illuminated with three patios which provide air and light to the liveable spaces. Mutual relations between living and working are reinforced with this or just avoided: a subtle game in which the playing with the theme ‘distance’ is central.
