The ordern proposes the construction of a services area next to the highway that links Cantabria, in northern Spain, whith the center of the country, in a mountainous area bordering the Castilla y Leon region.

The project aims to reclaim the possibility of creating architecture in a building type, such as gas stations and services areas, in which the final image is usually the nondescript visible residue of the engineering process.

There is a wish to be sensitive to the environment of the surronding mountains, through a set of sloped roofs which underline the broken horizon profile. At the same time, the porticos over the refueling areas are the threshold that leads the driver to the region of Cantabrian Campoo that looms in the distance.

Restauran and store are organized in separated buildings, which favors a more fragmented image and reduces the scale of the building in relation to the environment. The inner image of the buildings seeks an industrial ambient using polished concrete floor slabs, not rendered brick walls painted and installations in sight on the surface. Wood decor is the warm counterpoint and the echo of the dialogue established between the indoor and the outdoor landscape.

This has allowed the execution of civil works, urbanization and installations with a very tight budget.
