For this inner city campus on a slope towards the Scheldt River, a masterplan was established in order to allow for new open spaces and new built infills. The main topic of the plan is a pedestrian path that is meant to link all the different parts, inside and outside. The project happens to be grafted onto this passage and is actually perforated by it.

The tiny scale and the diversity of the programme in addition to the already dazzling topography finally result in a building that is in no way regular. A totally hybrid structure, including a flared column grid, outer structural fins and large steel Vierendeel beams, is needed in order to stack the different functions and allow for a smooth circulation of groups.

All vertical circulation shafts are organised on one side of the path, while on the other side a double height foyer can be accessed. It heads downwards to form an underground passage below the path leading to an older Faculty building.

The auditorium is situated on top of the lobby. It is accessed through a main stair and a wide corridor that curls around it. Behind is a large meeting room of the Faculty. The top level hosts a library organised around a patio, and combined with offices.

The front and back facade are ultimately fully glazed and cantilever outwards, while the two lateral ones are in concrete, one opaque, the other one made out of 20m high concrete fins.
