PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The Financial Client’s headquarters was conceived around the organization’s guiding mission: “We come to work each day to ensure our members have a bright tomorrow.” The design challenge was to translate that promise, centered on optimism and forward progress, into a physical workplace. The outcome is an environment that prioritizes openness, connectivity, and well-being, drawing inspiration from the surrounding sky, clouds, and natural light. The architecture uses curved forms to create a sense of movement and momentum, resulting in a setting that is inspiring while projecting confidence in the future.
The design solution leverages the tower’s panoramic views and abundant daylight by placing shared amenities and collaboration areas at the perimeter and keeping enclosed offices internal. This planning strategy democratizes access to daylight and views, while the curvilinear elements and layered natural materials soften the rectilinear framework of the building. Strategic planning creates smaller, human-scaled neighborhoods to foster engagement and flexibility.
Technology is fully integrated to enhance usability and efficiency. Automated systems manage air quality, shading, and circadian lighting, while intuitive AV and digital touchpoints streamline collaboration across hybrid teams. These tools are embedded into the architecture rather than applied on top, reinforcing both functionality and brand identity.
Health and wellness were prioritized with a dedicated center offering fitness, meditation, and spa-like amenities, as well as quieter moments of retreat distributed across the floor. Biophilic design, expressed in forms, textures, and plantings, creates a continuous connection to nature and supports employee well-being.
WORKPLACE STRATEGY DESCRIPTION
The workplace strategy for these headquarters was driven as much by organizational goals as by design vision. The planning framework emphasized equitable access to light and views, operational efficiency, and flexibility for future growth. The large floorplate was organized into a series of neighborhoods to create a more human scale, while circulation patterns and amenity placement were calibrated to increase interaction between departments that had previously worked in silos across multiple floors. The strategy balances hospitality-driven experiences, like a central café and wellness center, with performance requirements such as intuitive technology, better adjacencies, and long-term adaptability. By aligning space with culture and business needs, the workplace strategy ensured that the headquarters would function not just as an office but as a platform for collaboration and growth.
CHANGE MANAGEMENT DESCRIPTION
Change management was a critical component of the project, ensuring that the transition to the new headquarters was smooth and embraced by staff. The new layout still included traditional offices, but they were moved into the interior, creating a significant shift from their previous configuration. More open, hospitality-driven spaces were woven into the environment, requiring careful communication. Early engagement sessions gathered input from different departments, helping identify priorities and pain points while building ownership in the process. Pilot spaces and mock-ups allowed employees to experience new settings before move-in, reducing uncertainty and aligning expectations. Training was provided around new technology, flexible work zones, and wellness amenities so staff could make full use of the environment from day one. Together, the change management effort built confidence, minimized disruption, and helped employees see the new headquarters not just as a new address, but as an investment in their long-term success.
BRANDING DESCRIPTION
A central goal of the client’s headquarters was to express the brand as an integral part of the architecture and daily experience. At reception, a custom wall installation transforms a Canadian topographic map into a large-scale abstract artwork, its sculpted contours referencing the sinuous architectural language. Large-scale dimensional wall panels depicting abstracted images of workers highlight the people behind the firm’s investments, while subtler moves, such as the logo embossed in plaster walls, embed the brand at a tactile level. A sculptural digital kiosk provides a bold branded moment while also serving as a communication tool, extending the visual identity into the digital realm.
Styling and curation reinforce the brand by layering meaning and specificity into the environment. Architectural models of the client’s properties, commissioned artworks by Canadian and Indigenous artists, and carefully chosen objects and books connect the workplace to the firm’s heritage and mission. These curated elements soften the workplace, introduce personality, and ensure the environment feels distinctive and personal.
Together, these architectural, digital, and curated expressions create a brand experience that is immersive, authentic, and enduring, one that employees and visitors don’t just see but experience every day as a clear extension of the organization’s values.
