Partial Home remodel

RZ Interiors as Designers

The homeowner requested a white kitchen with simple forms, clean lines and a Scandinavian aesthetic.

The design team combined the existing kitchen and breakfast area and transformed it into one full kitchen with the breakfast table cantilevered from the island .

Oversized, white hardwood oak floors draw the eyes towards the contrasting white kitchen cabinets and the highly veined countertop and backsplash.

White and oak cabinetry has been contrasted with black handles, black faucets, matt black light fixtures and dark velvet upholstered furniture to create a harmonious and balanced space.

The design team was tasked to design a kitchen and breakfast area for a minimalist client who wanted to avoid all unnecessary visual clutter in her kitchen as well as her living environment. In this builder-basic residence, at the outset of the design phase, designers decided to utilize the full extent of the space on hand to convert the area pictured into one full size kitchen and island instead of keeping the existing separation between the breakfast area and kitchen. Cantilevering the breakfast table off of the island was a smart choice to provide the homeowner with a separate use of this area to obtain more comfortable seating/ entertainment space.

Designing for interiors that can easily transition from various uses is becoming key in the process of designing homes. We are designing in an era where the kitchen would sometimes need to convert to an office counter, meeting spot, and even an area to  entertain. In this residence, the challenge in the design process was to create dedicated stations such as breakfast table, coffee nook, cook and prep area while keeping a consistent look throughout to maintain a visually appealing kitchen that serves multiple purposes.
