Set on the Dorset coast at Friars Cliff, this project began when the clients purchased two off-plan apartments and commissioned Dream Design to redesign them as one complete coastal home before build. Dream Design was appointed for complete home interior architecture and design, resolving spatial planning, structural coordination, kitchen design, materials and interior specification from the earliest stages of the project.
The brief was to preserve the apartment’s sea views and natural light while creating a calm, practical layout with clear circulation and consistent detailing across the kitchen, living and private spaces.
The wall between the kitchen and dining/lounge areas was removed from the original plan to create a bright, dual-aspect open-plan kitchen, dining and living space. A vertical steel support beam was required structurally, then carefully clad and aligned with surrounding junctions so the intervention feels intentional within the finished room.
Whitewashed ash wood-effect porcelain flooring runs throughout the apartment, maintaining material continuity between the open-plan living areas, staircase and private spaces. Matching internal doors and staircase finishes reinforce the sense of flow, helping the redesigned apartments read as one complete home.
