B Project: A Versatile Pavilion in the Quiet Landscape of Gapyeong
Located in a tranquil village slightly removed from the bustling center of Gapyeong, B Project was designed as a multi-functional facility without a predetermined program. The space was envisioned to accommodate a variety of uses, including exhibitions, private rentals, events, parties, and film shoots. This required generous ceiling heights and expansive, uninterrupted interior volumes.
Set on a 5,000-square-meter site, the project embraces a natural garden that harmonizes with the surrounding mountain contours rather than relying on ornamental landscaping. The architecture integrates multiple terraces that facilitate an active relationship between interior and exterior spaces. The building is enveloped by nature—offering full immersion in Korea’s distinctly seasonal climate—and is oriented to capture distant views of the tranquil Cheongpyeong Lake.
The masterplan places the main building, which houses the multipurpose space, and a separate guesthouse on opposite sides of the central garden. This spatial arrangement encourages flexibility in use while preserving privacy and visual connection. The architecture was deliberately restrained in form and material to avoid visual dissonance with the surrounding landscape of forests and hills.
The primary exterior material is Crema Bello limestone, selected for its warm and light beige tone, providing a serene and natural expression. Complementing this, ipe wood panels were selectively applied to add warmth and tactile contrast. A minimal material palette—limestone, wood, and glass—was carefully curated to resonate with the surrounding natural environment. The retaining wall, which reaches nearly five meters in height, was finished in exposed board-formed concrete, providing both structural function and textural depth.
Although the project was not designed with a fixed program, the interior finishes were meticulously considered to ensure adaptability for various future uses. The limestone used on the façade continues into the interior, ensuring material continuity. However, subtle variation was introduced through adjustments to the modular configuration of the stone, lending refined articulation to the spatial experience.
