Grünmarkt

Places, especially market places, have to be flexible. When the market is closed the public space which should offer different uses remains. To allow for this the project, that was developed for the city of Linz, refers to specific parameters given on the site. Situated above an existing underground parking, the garage structure, the column grid and the cover sheets were taken as base of operation.

The intention was to transform several elements of this grid into mobile platforms, which are adjustable in height by a lifting technology (HUB). They could be used as seats, as shading or lighting objects, as well as shelters for mobile market stalls. Platforms that are not mobile are completed with vegetation, for recreation and walkways.

In addition permanent market facilities are installed. They are arranged within one building that is attached to an already existing kiosk situation and extended to a length of 103m. Within the whole urban setting it is brought to the back to provide an open public place. All the building fragments are understood as the newly implemented market hall, whereby the temporary plays a major role.
