Hatton House

This design for a replacement dwelling on a magnificent site overlooking the Solent and the Isle of Wight, is formed by two overlapping rectangular forms – a lower predominantly oak clad ‘service’ element to the north side containing entrance, bathrooms, laundry, circulation and the like – and a slightly higher white rendered ‘served’ element to the south side, containing the living and sleeping accommodation.

The architectural form plays the more solid north side against the transparent south façade, which is seen as a wrapping frame enclosing the main living and bedroom spaces, opening up towards the garden and the sea.

A brick chimney bisects the facade, and a glazed oriel off the master bedroom completes the composition.
