The house is situated in a new development district of Almelo, among approximately 200 other, mostly detached houses. The design is based on the plot size and the client’s exact programme of requirements. The design is structured on the basis of the private rooms on the first floor: four bedrooms and two bathrooms are grouped together in six equal bays of approximately 3 m. This allowed the maximum width on the plot of 24 m to be adhered to, as 3 m had to be left free on both sides. The openings in the steel load-bearing structure are filled with wooden frame walls. These are completely glazed on three sides with screen-printed glass, which also continues in front of the small, horizontal windows. Only the entrance is excluded. On both the inside and outside there is great uniformity of a limited number of materials. All interior walls are made of birch multiplex, floors on the ground floor of dolomite, floors on the first floor of sisal. Interior doors are made of figure glass, with frames in Japanese red.
