In educational architecture, movement and transit sequences acquire enough importance as to generate the main idea behind the project.
The access to the building through a previous courtyard puts in value the gradation of different atmospheres, controlled by a zig-zag circulation.
The school is organized in a succession of linear buildings communicated by a central spine in two levels.
This spacious corridor made in concrete connects the four two-storey classroom pavilions with the administrative wing – the largest builiding placed at the end of the lineal connecting spine-. It transforms into a double height space full of mysterious lights where the openings are adapted to the orientation and the different sights towards the gardened yards of the ground floor.
The courtyards -invariant of traditional spanish architecture- are green spaces that create a comfortable microclimate to which the classrooms are opened. The vegetation chosen in autochthonous, and guarantees the shade in summer, protecting the classrooms from excessive sunlight. The garden’s irrigation is fed by the gray waters of the toilets and fountains.
The gym was given a special meaning as the great multiple use space. For parties, assemblies and events, beyond pure sport. The building is independent from the rest of the complex and encloses one side of the open-air playground.
The structure is made of concrete -compound by walls, pillars and beams- and the exterior walls are made of “termoarcilla”. The finish of the ceramic walls is colored lime mortar. A grey concrete plinth was built in every building in order to solve the level differences of the site.
