Town Hall Requalification and New Collective Spaces in Cenate Sotto
An operation of urban renewal in a tiny center of the first hills of Bergamo, an intervention for the complete redefinition of the municipal public spaces, since ever treated as mere residual unused space.
The existing town hall, a colorful building of the early seventies right next to the educational gardens of the primary school, built by the studio after winning first prize of a national competition, was the subject of a special "redesign" intervention: appliances, segregated by uncrossable fences now completely removed, have been transformed into a great new fluid collective space, a traversable surface, a land of encounter and exchange.
The Town Hall, dressed in delicate colors and embraced by a new kind of vegetal ring "square", gives the residents a new place where to recognize, get in touch, play or simply relax for a few minutes. A paved carpet winds through meadows and historic trees, welcoming suspended volumes for long sessions in the green. From sunset the benches are illuminated at the base, floating on clouds of light striking the pavement and giving it a vibrant look. Shaft elements and lighting hidden in the bushes complete the construction of a perceptual landscape we could say domestic, fluffy, familiar. The new spaces connect the school gardens at the historic public park on a real seamless green ridge.
