Haute couture house
The construction stands on a strip of land below the cantonal road on the shore of Lake Geneva in the Lavaux region, a recent addition to the list of UNESCO World Heritage sites.
It is becoming a common phenomenon. Changing population densities, urban pressure and the economy have jeopardised the upkeep of a built heritage, all the more so as attractive plots of land have rarely remained untouched. The negligible property value of existing buildings made it possible to rebuild more adequately in accordance with the charac- teristics of the site. The new home is built into the slope and reflects the two features of the surrounding countryside: the vines, the road noise from above and the lake below.
But let our customers speak for themselves: “... Having worked with construction professionals over a period of several months, we gradually became more familiar with the questions and reflections that punctuate the development and materialisation of an architectural project. Slowly but surely, we became more curious about our built environment, although we quickly realised that we did not have sufficient knowledge to un- derstand it with a sufficient degree of objectivity. To overcome this failing, we extended the project phase as long as possible – extending our learning in the process.” In the end, after four years of dialogue, we built a house much as we would choose a partner for life – with love, passion, patience, trust, courage, perseverance and time, a great deal of time. Without that, there would be no project.
