Stal Arquitetura transforms a 700m² residence in São Paulo, Brazil, into a cozy and organized space

The highlight is the family's book collection
An imposing house with approximately 700 square meters of built area, located in São Paulo, has undergone an incredible architectural transformation. Renowned architects Alessandra Pinho and Stella Teixeira from Stal Arquitetura took on the challenge of rethinking and redesigning the space to create a more harmonious, cozy and organized environment, meeting the needs of the owner family.

The duo's mission was to create solutions to accommodate the vast collection of books, objects and furniture that filled the residence. The project included the creation of customized cabinetry to store books, collections and toys, resulting in a new distribution of furniture and renewed layouts for various rooms in the house.

A crucial point of the project was the replacement of all lighting parts, which contributed significantly to the final layout. Furthermore, the Peroba wood floor, present throughout the house, was completely scraped, requiring the movement of all furniture from the living area to the intimate area and vice versa.

In most environments, the original furniture was maintained, but there was a redistribution and inclusion of joinery designed especially to meet the specific needs of each space. However, in places such as the Home Theater, Son's Suite and Office, the architects created completely new projects.

A notable feature of the project was the choice of a neutral tone for all walls, ensuring visual harmony and well-being. The joinery was finished in natural American oak veneer, providing lightness and sophistication to the spaces.

In the Home Theater, a bold lacquer finish in a grayish blue tone brought a casual and cozy touch. Points of color were applied to the Intimate Hall and the Son's Suite to create a visual contrast.

Standing out as a work of art in itself, the family's large book collection was accommodated in a harmonious and visually striking way in the new woodwork. The client had the opportunity to organize all the titles by subject and colors, creating a captivating color effect with the spines of the covers.

The project also includes exclusive furniture pieces, such as a sideboard, bench and bag rack, designed by the architectural firm to meet the specific needs of the clients. The result does not fit into a defined style, but can be described as contemporary, mixing antique, modern and current furniture with straight line joinery and sophisticated finishing.

The project began in August 2021, with almost a year of preliminary studies, executive projects, approvals, budget execution and logistical planning to accommodate the absence of clients during the work, since it was unfeasible to carry out the renovation with the family residing at home.

The work itself lasted just over three months and included the complete scraping of the wooden floor, polishing of the marbles, painting and the implementation of new lighting, sound and security projects.

A notable curiosity throughout the project was the active participation of the clients' son, a young man of just 13 years old, who demonstrated great interest and understanding in architecture and decoration, possibly foreshadowing a promising future as an architect.

The project represents the successful transformation of a residence into a welcoming, functional and visually stunning space, meeting the needs and desires of the owning family. It is a notable example of how architecture and design can create spaces that reflect residents' personality and lifestyle.
