Following the February 6, 2023 earthquakes, the design process began with the clients’ request for a residence located close to their factories in the Adana Organized Industrial Zone. The desire to create a retreat from the city for weekends, while also addressing concerns related to safety and earthquakes, became a determining factor in developing the project as a single-storey house.

The residence is organized around three separate modules accommodating the parents’ living areas, children’s and guest rooms, and shared living spaces. Transparent glass volumes positioned between these modules form the circulation areas while establishing both visual and spatial connections between the different parts of the house. Through these glazed connections, the three modules can function together as a unified residence, while the connecting doors can be closed when necessary, allowing each part to operate independently. The building’s infrastructure and mechanical systems were also designed to support this flexible mode of use.

The module located on the eastern side contains the primary bedroom, bathroom, and dressing area. The void created between the primary bedroom and bathroom was designed as an internal courtyard, bringing natural light and landscape into the interior.

The western module accommodates the children’s bedrooms, guest room, and bathroom, while the southern module contains the main shared spaces, including the living room and kitchen. A terrace positioned in front of this module acts as a threshold between the interior and the garden. By connecting the garden, terrace, and living areas on the same level and without interruption, everyday life is allowed to extend naturally into the outdoor space.

The relative positioning of the three modules was shaped not only by the functional organization of the house but also by its climatic performance. Their arrangement helps control Adana’s intense western sun while creating shaded areas around the garden and terrace at different times of the day.

The existing landscape and natural features of the site were also treated as important design inputs. In order to preserve an existing tree in the garden, the dimensions and position of the swimming pool were shaped according to the tree’s existing location. In this way, the project aims to establish a sensitive and integrated relationship between the architecture, the outdoor spaces, and the existing landscape.
