Ikos Porto Petro, the resort that brings the best of Greece to Spain

STUDIOGRONDA as Architects

Ikos Porto Petro is the third hotel designed by GRONDA for Ikos Resorts. It is located in Mallorca, right next to a fishing port and two beautiful coves, Cala Des Homes Morts and Cala de Sa Torre.

It houses 319 rooms, including different suites and a selection of beautifully designed villas with up to three bedrooms.

With views of the Mediterranean Sea, the buildings have balconies, gardens, and private pools. The entire hotel design has an island-style incorporating Mallorcan touches such as its local stone.

One particular feature of this project is that the plot where it is located has lush vegetation. It is filled with plants, trees, and slopes that allow the buildings to be staggered, adapting to the topography, granting almost all rooms a sea view.

Architecturally, discreet buildings have been created with the idea of blending in with the surroundings. We have focused on creating architecture that generates the least possible impact on the environment.

In terms of design, Ikos Porto Petro is characterized by its timeless design and the use of natural materials such as Mallorcan stone, wood, natural fibers, and leather, giving an island touch to the entire complex. The main element of this project is nature, and above all, the sea view.

In the main building, the lobby stands out. We created a grand entrance where guests can immediately see the sea, offering a clear view of the coast.

As for the services, this resort has several restaurants, each with a different cuisine.

Flavors is located in a building that floats on the edge of the coast. It has floor-to-ceiling windows that allow guests to see the breaking waves. The design concept simulates a gourmet market where you can find different types of food from around the world. Each food stall has its own identity.

Fresco, the Italian restaurant, is the most family-friendly restaurant. The highlight is the pizza oven and barbecue area. The most prominent feature is its bench with tables around it in the center, with a large chandelier made of retro-illuminated glass bottles hanging from the ceiling.

Next to Fresco, we find the Pool Bar. It is located in front of the family pools. It is a very popular bar where guests can enjoy a snack. It has a very casual atmosphere, with mostly low seating where guests can even come in their swimwear.

In this space, we have exposed the sloping terracotta roof, which will be covered with reed panels to add warmth. In the center, there is a chandelier made of custom-made woven natural fiber luminaires.

Right next to Cala Des Homes Morts is the Beach Club, which serves as both a restaurant and a bar. Its design is inspired by the Greek islands. The restaurant area is completely open, only covered by pergolas. Right in front of the Beach Club, there are swimming pools and sun loungers integrated with nature.

The lobby bar is an extension of the lobby with impressive views. Its facade is glassed with a skylight in the central part that allows plenty of natural light to enter. Outside, there is a large pergola covered with woven reed and a bar with a wooden counter where they offer a great selection of cocktails.

The last of the restaurant is the Deluxe. It is located in a semicircular building very close to the waterfront. It is exclusive for guests staying in the Deluxe area. It is intimate and very private, surrounded by a garden of lavender and flowers that provides privacy so that they are not seen from other areas of the hotel.

The Leisure area is below the Lobby on the ground floor. It is reached by a large oval wooden staircase from the Lobby. Here, guests can find an ice cream parlor, a minimarket, a high-end clothing store, and a jewelry store.

In this area, there is also a closed theater in the form of an auditorium. It has large red curtains and a central lighting element that adds warmth to the space. It also has a small bar for enjoying a drink upon arrival or during the intermission of a performance.

The resort also has spaces designed for wellness, such as a gym or a SPA by Anne Sémonin Paris. The spa features private treatment rooms where guests can enjoy massages and facial treatments. It also includes a hammam, a sauna, and various types of designer showers.

The resort rooms are designed in the characteristic Mediterranean style of Ikos, incorporating different Mallorcan touches.

The most distinctive ones are the villas, with two bedrooms, a private garden, and sea views. These villas are built with Mallorcan stone, which gives a very pleasant touch to the rooms. Their floor-to-ceiling windows with sea views are also noteworthy.

Overall, in this project, we have used all environmentally friendly elements, utilizing all possible local resources and minimizing energy and water consumption.
