Indoor Pool

Markus Schietsch Architekten as Architects

The new indoor pool is to be integrated into the existing Oberdorf outdoor pool complex. This borders on the landscape area with the Glatt and on the village shaped core zone around the Oberdorfstrasse. The current complex is characterized by carefully maintained lawns and large solitary trees. As a natural place for leisure and recreation, the outdoor pool complex lives from its spatial separation from the settlement area and its belonging to the Glatt natural area. The aim was to preserve the character and spaciousness of the complex, to strengthen the spatial differentiation from the adjacent settlement structures and to integrate the new indoor swimming pool sensitively.

The new swimming pool will be situated parallel to the adjoining Oberdorfstrasse, thus creating a specific address. The sizeable elongated form is the architectural framework for bringing the required programs into a precise sequence. All uses will be combined under one long structure to form one unit. At the same time, visitors experience a variety of different spatial experiences. The shape of the building with the compact roof shape refers to landscape and hangar buildings and is integrated into the adjacent settlement structure and the existing natural space.
