Institute for Health Training in Lomme

Institute for Health Training in Lomme

WONKARCHITECTES as Architects

The urban integration & relationship site: overview The project is developed on 7 levels (R- 1 / R+5) is fitted to the northern boundary of a parcel marking the corner of the island and extends over its entire length. Such a device uses resonance the building and its courtyard and offers an immediate reading of the functioning of the building. First, the lobby and the cafeteria on the ground floor fully glazed and are connected directly to the court that extends into the bottom of the plot and sunny garden terrace.

Then, the amphitheater and the room’s practices are the major areas of the program. Beyond their specified dimensions, they form growths in the south facade, thereby causing interactions between the building and its outdoor space. The iconic shape of the auditorium appears clearly from the public space and its underside ad straightforward access to the entrance hall of the Institute. Practice rooms are located on the top floor; the circulation door overhang on the square is largely glazed and benefits from a full height window on the heart of island.

Finally, terraces are arranged at various locations and altimetry building echoing the court. The outgrowth of the amphitheater is an opportunity to develop a terrace on the 3rd floor for the resource center. The building is also “cut" in two places to provide outdoor spaces:

- In the fourth level on the east façade, a green terrace is furnished for users classrooms unmarked, assuring a volumetric transition of the building on the way to the heart of the block.

- At 5th level, at the corner of the street, a large wood and vegetated terrace, a haven of peace on the roof of the Institute, will also be available to all students.

Facade treatments We chose to make the facades above the ground floor in cladding made of natural anodized aluminum white background rain cap for a milky appearance and an evanescent character given to the front through the game overlay metal. At the corner of the streets, the facades of the resource center are composed of a double thickness glazing and cladding expanded metal. These facades are translucent and have a soft and uniform light, suitable for library users. In the evening, the figurehead of the building lights and identifies the project in its urban environment.

A set of sharp lines, metal profiles U marking hollow animate the facades and sections divided facades. These lines fold and unfold at the discretion of surfaces to highlight floors level and gambling door overhang. They inflect on the underside of the auditorium and highlight the entry of the Institute.

Between these lines, the project plays simple alternating metal panels and aluminum frames. The latter are fixed, made of steel and anodized aluminum are canopy builds on their outer face. Share and other glazing, the openings in the cladding allow naturally ventilate the rooms. The surfaces of expanded metal and glazing vibrate and enhance one another and in a shade of white metal (anodizedaluminum) and reflections (glass).

The architectural & general operation: a flexible rationality As described above, such an installation of the building generates a relatively small thickness of the building: 14.80m. This dimension, which allows plenty of light all parts of the program, provides transparency on the ground floor and accepts flexibility interiors. In addition to the auditorium and rooms practices, it is in this sense that we discussed the design of the building and all areas could eventually be easily renovated into offices, as does include the 1st floor plan dedicated to the administration (offices along the north and south facades and the technical and functional blocks in the center of the building).

General organization functions This operation from the outside, the lobby and reception areas aresimple, while allowing many opportunities for connections between functional units and their possible developments.

The project is organized in two areas: first, vertical, describes the general operation of the building, and the second, horizontal, expresses the flexibility of the building.

The vertical axis expresses the distribution of programs. Thus we find: - Level -1: archives and local techniques, - Level 0: hall and cafeteria, - Level 1: auditorium (low access) and administration, - Level 2: auditorium (broadbandaccess) and classrooms unmarked - Level 3: resource center and classrooms unmarked - Level 4: Resource Centre (mezzanine) and classrooms unmarked - Level 5: practical rooms and roof terrace.

Offices trainers are distributed on all floors close to the classrooms. All these functions are distributed by two elevators located in the center of the building and two stairwells. A majestic staircase directly connects the ground floor and first floor: entrance hall, cafeteria, administration and the main entrance of the amphitheater.

In the horizontal, the project is divided into three parallel programmatic and structural bands.

The first frame has spacing of 3.80m and along the north side of the building. The program leans to the front enjoys a quiet relationship with the future urban park and a distant view of the countryside. The first frame includes two staircases, offices teachers, box group work, public health, the relaxation room teachers on the ground floor, and the nursing station on the top floor.

The second frame has a center distance of 1.80m and is at the center of the building. Its mission is to serve all areas of the levels. On the ground floor, the circulation takes the function of office for the cafeteria.

The third and final frame has a center distance of 8.00m. It is located in the southern part of the building and enjoys a strong relationship with the square and heart block. It is in this portion of the building that is arranged spaces requiring flexibility. One thus finds the lobby, cafeteria, classrooms and unmarked resource center on two levels.

This frame is devoid of any carrier point that can clutter the space. It is suitable for high scalability and can be converted into a large landscaped spaces ( cf. cafeteria) , in offices (see Administration), in classrooms, etc. .
