The opening of the Jinan Subway in 2019 will accelerate the city's development. Urban rail construction and land development are often implemented separately, leading to disconnection in planning, construction, and management of the city. This makes it difficult for the metro to better serve the city.
Given that metro construction involves complex coordination among multiple aspects such as: the design scope, schedule, and budget. This design mission includes urban planning, architecture, transportation, landscape, and interior design, while also adhering to the overall construction schedule of Metro Line, enhancing the feasibility of an integrated design approach.
Design Goals:
To create a model for integrated comprehensive development and construction along metro lines.
Design Challenges and method:
Metro construction brings urban renewal and development, particularly raising higher demands on city management in five key areas: transportation, land, industry, finance, and relocation. This project adopts the "TOD Integrated System Design", following the principles of "integration of underground space with the metro" and "integration of the central axis landscape with surrounding plots," leading to a comprehensive system overview. The final output includes an integrated system master plan and cross-section drawings, as well as established principles for the design and construction of the central axis.
Design Concepts:
- **Four Stations:** Based on the results of the M1 line plan and surrounding underground space planning, principles for the functionality, style, and spatial transitions of each station are proposed.
- **Eight Connection Points:** The metro optimizes and enhances the slow traffic system(pedestrians). Research is conducted on the connectivity at each connection point between plots to ensure the landscape continuity and integration of the central axis green corridor.
- **Six Plots:** Based on existing plans for the surrounding areas, the underground space of the central axis and the ground landscape design are further developed. preserving construction conditions in advance, maximizing land utilization, enhancing the value of underground space, the design will focus on the development potential above and below ground in the six plots crossed by the metro, leading to architectural and landscape concept designs.
- **Central Park Station:** In line with the park's positioning, Central Park will be developed into a new recreational hub for Jinan. Bringing underground functions to the surface and sinking ground landscapes to embody the concepts of "outdoor space" and "visibility of light and greenery."
- **West Station:** The design proposes a multi-layered transportation hub to address existing traffic issues at the West Station, optimizing the surrounding area and creating a smooth, convenient, and efficient organizational model. The high-speed rail station will feature diversified functions, enhancing the quality of the West Station and establishing an efficient, comprehensive, and integrated modern urban hub image.
- **Traffic Design:** Traffic issues will be organized based on current conditions and planning analysis, assessing future traffic development based on travel and parking demands. The design concepts for the areas along the Jinan West Central Axis include multi-dimensional transportation, low-carbon transportation, and human-centered transportation.
