A sculptural New Jersey residence where curves, textures, and light create a calm retreat above the city skyline.
Residence is a 1 420 sq ft apartment in New Jersey designed as a contemporary retreat above the skyline. The concept centers on fluidity and warmth, achieved through curved architectural gestures, a restrained material palette, and strategic use of natural light. The interiors combine sculptural forms with everyday functionality, creating a space that adapts seamlessly to the rhythm of family life.
The living room is anchored by a curved sofa and stone table, softened with textured fabrics and highlighted by panoramic glazing. In contrast, the kitchen introduces a striking focal point: a glowing onyx island paired with a custom dining nook, designed for both intimate family meals and social gatherings. Vertical wooden slats and arched passages guide movement, adding rhythm and continuity throughout the plan.
Private zones reflect distinct moods. The master suite is a cocoon of oak, linen, and plaster, with concealed storage to heighten the sense of calm. The children’s room shifts the palette, introducing playful accents of red and green within a neutral backdrop. A minimal home office ensures flexibility, balancing work with domestic life. Materials were chosen for tactility and timelessness: warm oak, natural stone, bronze, and soft textiles. This restrained palette allows light and shadow to animate the interiors, while creating a calming counterpoint to the energy of the city outside.
Developed through a hybrid process of design and advanced 3D visualization, the residence was refined with the clients at every stage. Virtual walkthroughs and digital prototyping ensured that proportions, finishes, and furnishings were precisely tuned before construction, resulting in a highly personal and efficient design journey.
Residence embodies a duality: at once a calm retreat and a vibrant urban home. Its interplay of curves, textures, and views makes it a timeless expression of modern living in New Jersey.
