Blending nostalgia, sophistication and a sense of adventure, July Chadstone transports customers into the alluring world of travel. A discovery-led plan, combining architectural gestures and a mid-century inspired material palette, crafts a sense of ‘romantic escapism’—a representation of the Australian luggage label’s refined yet playful spirit.
Securing a flagship at Melbourne’s Chadstone, July tasked the designers to create a unique and immersive showcase of the brand, while honouring the strength of its established outposts. Committed to developing a site-specific narrative, the design team drew on Chadstone’s identity as a cultural hub and fashion capital. Bright red and pale blue hues were derived from 1960s flight attendant uniforms and the plush interiors of first-class cabins, defining and anchoring key moments throughout the store experience.
Entering through a pale blue tiled threshold, a dual-volume space greets customers, separated by a high-gloss red ‘portal.’ Rich, Californian Burl timber lines the front volume’s ceiling and wall niches, recalling the nostalgia of luxury vehicle dashboards and plane cabin linings, while aligned mirrors set into the ‘portal’ create an infinite, reflection—a illusory, tunnel-like space with a transportive quality.
Beyond, the rear volume centres on a crafted sales counter combining pale blue upholstery, hand-finished aluminium, cork and chrome detailing—a celebration of artisanal craftsmanship. Refined luggage displays brim the perimeter, while a bold ‘waffle’ ceiling offers a refined evolution of the gridded ceiling at July’s Fortitude Valley flagship. Its grid-like structure offers a skylit, atrium effect, bringing brightness to the store’s depths.
