The K20_MBSW project is a sophisticated architectural response to the challenge of expanding a historic bank headquarters in Niepołomice. The primary goal was to transition the facility from its stagnant, 1980s-era layout into a cutting-edge regional hub where heritage meets high-tech functionality.
The visual narrative is driven by material continuity. The new extension draws its color palette from the town’s traditional ceramic roofscapes. The deep, earthy red of naturally fired clay transitions seamlessly from the pitched roofs down onto the facades, creating a bold, contemporary monolith. This vibrant ceramic skin contrasts beautifully with the cream-colored plaster of the historic wing and the sharp, dark frames of the high-performance glazing.
Beyond the aesthetics, the project represents a radical ecological upgrade. By replacing obsolete coal boilers with advanced air-source heat pumps and integrating a rooftop photovoltaic system, the building’s energy footprint has been significantly reduced. The design also shows deep respect for the site’s natural context, meticulously preserving mature, historic trees that now frame the new, organic geometry of the extension.
Social accessibility was a cornerstone of the redesign. The restrictive, stair-only entrance from the past has been replaced by a modern ramp system, ensuring the bank is fully inclusive and barrier-free. K20_MBSW stands as a testament to how institutional architecture can honor its past while embracing a sustainable, carbon-conscious future.
