KÁSHEN is conceived with the intention of remaining almost unnoticed within the vast Patagonian landscape. Rather than imposing itself on the site, the hotel seeks to disappear into the steppe, allowing the territory, the horizon and the waters of El Calafate to remain the true protagonists.

The architecture follows the site’s natural slope and is fragmented into a sequence of partially buried shelters. Planted roofs restore the continuity of the steppe, while curved, earth-toned envelopes blend with the stones shaped by wind along the coastline. From the arrival point, only a small portion of the building reveals its presence; the rest remains concealed within the terrain and vegetation. The form of each unit also draws from the nearby caves and natural shelters historically used by Tehuelche communities as protection from the region’s extreme conditions.

Architecture is therefore understood as refuge: a contained, warm and silent interior that opens selectively toward the lake, the coastline and the distant mountains. Courtyards and voids interrupt the linear arrangement, introducing natural light and establishing a rhythm between protected spaces and expansive views. KÁSHEN proposes an experience in which inhabiting the landscape does not mean occupying it, but becoming part of it.
