The Kinmen Ferry Terminal was designed as a true gateway connecting the city to the sea. The building arches over a public park, allowing the landscape to flow beneath it so visitors can move naturally between the waterfront and the urban center. This creates an open, welcoming arrival experience where people in the park see the marine activity, and passengers arriving by boat get an immediate view of the city.

All vehicle circulation is routed into an underpass that leads to parking below the terminal, keeping the ground level free for a large covered public plaza. From this plaza, travelers access the Domestic and International wings through escalators and elevators, creating a clear and efficient flow for arrivals and departures.

A key feature of the project is the Kinmen Maritime Museum, which extends from the terminal as a hovering volume over the park. It offers exhibition spaces, a café, and an auditorium, giving both passengers and residents a cultural destination that celebrates Kinmen’s maritime history.

Natural light, ventilation, and shading are integrated through a central glass canyon and the covered plaza, improving comfort and reducing energy use. Overall, the terminal functions as transportation hub, public space, and cultural landmark — a modern piece of infrastructure that strengthens Kinmen’s connection to its waterfront.
