With the new construction of the daycare center at Salberghaus in Putzbrunn, Wille Kastner Architekten, commissioned by the Catholic Youth Welfare Association of the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising (Katholische Jugendfürsorge der Erzdiözese München und Freising e.V.), have created a place that makes pedagogical inclusion a tangible spatial experience. Built between 2022 and 2024, this modern, four-group facility combines the highest architectural standards with sustainable construction and an inclusive spatial concept.
The Architectural Concept: Hybrid Construction with Character
The building presents itself as a contemporary hybrid structure. The solid load-bearing structure was executed in robust reinforced concrete, giving the building longevity and thermal mass. Externally, however, the daycare center is characterized by a prefabricated timber facade constructed as a timber frame structure. This sustainable wood facade not only gives the building a warm, inviting, and natural aesthetic but also blends harmoniously into the surrounding environment.
Light-Flooded Spaces for Inclusive Pedagogy
The centerpiece of the design is the layout of the interior and exterior spaces. Spacious, light-flooded group rooms create a bright and friendly learning and playing atmosphere, perfectly tailored to the needs of children with and without special support needs. Special attention was paid to the flowing transitions to the outdoors: the building offers direct access to the generous play and open areas, allowing architecture and nature to seamlessly merge for the children.
Focus on Sustainability and Energy Efficiency
In addition to social sustainability (inclusion), ecological sustainability plays a central role in this new build. The building features an ecological green roof, which improves the microclimate and serves as a natural water reservoir. This is complemented by a high-performance photovoltaic system for renewable energy generation. Inside, a modern underfloor heating system ensures efficient and comfortable heating across the approximately 1,000 square meters of floor area.
