The renovation and expansion of the Estadio de la Cartuja, designed by Cruz y Ortiz Arquitectos, aimed to transform the venue into a stadium primarily dedicated to soccer and hosting events.
The main work focused on removing the existing track and field, lowering the playing field to an elevation of -3.80 m, and constructing a new soccer field with the dimensions required by UEFA regulations, measuring 105 x 68 m. The project included the construction of a new lower grandstand to bring the audience closer to the playing field and improve visibility and the stadium’s usability.
This grandstand was designed entirely from scratch in the north and south sections, while in the premium and back sections it was conceived as a continuation of the existing grandstand. In addition to the work on the field and the stands, the project incorporated specific modifications to the building to provide access to the new stands and equip them with the necessary facilities.
These modifications included new restrooms, bars, social areas, and accessible entrances, adapting the stadium to the anticipated increase in capacity and the new needs of the public.
