This delicate intervention in the heart of the French Riviera tells the story of a contemporary interior that maintains the essence of a 1960s construction on the waterfront. Versatility of use is key in this project through use of sliding partitions. Barn doors, from a nearby local joiner, open the kitchen to the dining room for more social dining while contemporary lighting sits delicately on a de-cluttered concrete slab ceiling.
Materiality and lighting are also paramount in this project, as the outward-facing residence transforms from a bright space during the mediterranean summers, into a warm winter-time inward looking residence. French oak subtly used in its various states throughout allows for an interesting play on textures. Moments are created in this residence through not only contrasting materiality and play on light, but also contemporary fixtures coupled with antique furniture pieces of place.
