The project is a renovation of an existing 10,000 sf industrial building located in Chicago's Fulton Market District just west of downtown. Sited on a corner lot, the building has two distinct street conditions that the design begins to negotiate: the main thoroughfare of Fulton Street and the less traveled side street.
The main component of the program is a large open performance area with an elevated stage. The performance area is sub-divisible into five studios for dance lessons. Changing rooms, ample storage and a private studio are also included. Accompanying the dance functions of the project is a cafe/small restaurant and bar component. The cafe permeates the main facade and spills out onto Fulton Street while also forming a bracketing audience component to the performance stage
