The implementation of the square in this place has its origins in recent history of the town: this spot forms a horizontal surface outside of the town walls, a forecourt that is perfectly oriented southwest. It can be defined as an element of urban structuring of the outlying area to initiate Arlons enlargement and to create a prestigious place surrounded by public buildings – a place that is generously open towards the provincial palace, which is located in the background in order to increase the perspective and monumentality.
