A colored sustainable school

This new school is part of a newly developed area based on the principles of sustainability. Located on the corner of two streets, it has two separate entrances for school and community use, each marked by a green colored element. The use of color in materials creates a game of parallax effect in the perception of the school, in a manner similar to optical art. The passerby discovers a palette of cool colors on the ground floor and a warm color palette on the upper floor. Inside and out, color is used to create benchmarks to help guide and strengthen each group’s identity. The colorful accents continues in the corridors and inside the classroom, identifying each group’s classes and lockers. Circulations have plenty of natural light and are visually open to the outside. The axis of the main entrance leads to a multipurpose room, permeable to the activities of the court and the gym. A footbridge crosses the space on the second floor, multiplying the views and creating animation between common areas.

The professionals worked with engineers to achieve an environmentally responsible school, with durable materials and an excellent energy performance. This project was realised in a joint venture with Yves Woodrough architects. Project Manager: Clément Bastien Project Designer: Maryse Laberge Project team: Philippe Woodrough, Luc Guénette, David Smith, Simon Babin, Guillaume Bédard.
