The Life Science Center Vienna provides flexible laboratory and office spaces for companies, institutes, and start-ups in the life sciences sector. The building creates spatial conditions for research, development, and collaboration while responding to the specific requirements of a highly technical working environment.
The building volume reacts to a heterogeneous urban context composed of research facilities, infrastructure, and open spaces. As a compact and clearly structured volume, it defines a precise edge within the urban fabric and establishes a distinct address. Transparent ground-floor zones and carefully positioned recesses open the building toward the public realm and make shared functions visible.
Modular Scalability and Future-proofing
The internal organization follows a modular structure capable of accommodating the diverse spatial requirements of laboratories and offices. Flexible floor plans allow spaces to adapt to changing users and evolving research processes. Communication areas and shared zones connect the floors and encourage informal exchange.
The façade is based on a clearly articulated grid that balances transparency with the functional requirements of laboratory spaces. Precisely placed openings and a restrained material palette give the building a calm and distinct architectural presence.
