The city of Almere (the netherlands) is conducting the biggest low-cost self-build experiment in Europe. In this experiment there is a urban grid designed by OMA (office for metropolitan architecture by Rem Koolhaas) where people can build there own houses.
This house is designed for a family with young children, who wanted to have the possibility to live here for the rest of their lives. This resulted in a design where the ground floor has all the important functions, and the top floor has a special programm for the childeren, with their own bathroom/ bedrooms and workspaces.
