Transforming a long-dormant space, this project is curated as a 'home' for locals to work or unwind with coffee. The design embodies the 'local' spirit through honest materials and spatial layout, going beyond just a name. It aims to become a living focal point, adding a contemporary yet sincere face to the neighborhood.
The primary challenge lay in mastering the building's circular geometry without compromising functionality. Curating the relationship between the central glass dome and shifting daylight was crucial. We aimed to define distinct zones without solid walls, preserving the uninterrupted spatial volume and maintaining a sense of total fluidity.
For Local People, we chose a material palette that balances warmth, light and tactile comfort to create a welcoming, home-like atmosphere. Gradient-finished metal surfaces introduce tonal depth, reflecting the richness of coffee culture while giving the columns a sculptural presence. White interior surfaces reflect the daylight entering through the glass dome, while custom textile shading panels, developed with artist Pınar Çetin, soften the light and bring an artistic layer to the ceiling. Natural textures and soft upholstery make the seating areas comfortable and inviting. Willow branches form the central “nest” installation and extend outdoors as shading elements, strengthening the connection between the interior and the surrounding landscape. Together, these choices give the space a contemporary identity grounded in nature and everyday comfort.
