Leaving the city’s hustle and bustle you will land in a different world called LuminAir. It’s a world inspired by light and air, inclusive exclusivity, offering a unique experience.
LuminAir, ‘the bar above Amsterdam’, exudes energy, music, art, colour and ever-changing skies above our creative city, and boasts an innovative interior in which cloud-shaped installations and light projections reshape along with changing skies. Interior design agency, King Kongs, is responsible for a rooftop terrace and interior that (literally) makes you feel like you’re in the clouds.
LuminAir is all about high-level mixology and pairing bar bites. Bar and kitchen work closely together, creating experiences where cocktails and food flawlessly merge. The cocktail menu is based on lumen, the intensity of light, and consists of eight alcoholic and three alcohol-free signatures. Accordingly, you will find Clear Blue Sky on the menu – as at the beginning of the spectrum – at 6500 lumens. A low-alcohol, fresh and floral cocktail, composed of Lillet Blanc, along with crème de violette and chamomile kombucha. On the other side you will find Match Flame, at 1700 lumens. A strong, hot cocktail with roasted apple and pear infused rye whiskey, pancake syrup and a mescal mist with smoked orange, and rose water.
LuminAir is open to the public during daytime, evenings and, on weekends, until the night hours, to enjoy a tasteful international lunch or delicious bites. Think of oysters and sushi, but also beef rendang, softshell crab and karaage (fried) cauliflower. Both sandwiches, soups and salads in the daytime, and evening cuisine, all have a special LuminAir twist. The chef has created various pairings with the oysters. Sushi is freshly prepared. And what about the ‘bitterballen’ (croquet balls)?
These come with homemade beet mustard and sweet and sour beets. The menu is well balanced, including vegetarian and vegan options, as well as dishes with meat and fish. To finish, there is a selection of delicious desserts, including the summery Virgin Pina Colada; a chocolate coconut filled with tropical fruit and citrus coconut sorbet.
LuminAir has taken a sustainable approach throughout both the bar and kitchen, paying close attention to the finer details. For example, both the bar and kitchen focus on local products and zero to minimal waste techniques. The menu covers are created from recycled PET bottles, the paper is made from Dutch roadside grass – and recycled residual tomato waste is used for the coasters.
On the same floor as LuminAir, a VIP event space called Eclipse opened. This venue has an equally spectacular view and the same professional service, including its own cocktail bar and huge south facing terrace. It is the ideal place for high-end events, luxury brand launches, creative pop-ups and decadent parties.
Whether you hop on the elevator for a sociable lunch, an exciting evening or private party, LuminAir and Eclipse surpass expectations in many areas, including, of course the stunning views of Amsterdam’s historic city centre.
