Luton airport

Rob Naybour, Director:

“As experts in major infrastructure projects, we identified Luton along with others, as a site with fantastic potential and connectivity. We think the debate about the future of air transport in the UK needs to be broadened further than a nice diagram by Fosters and the pragmatism of expanding Heathrow.”

Key reasoning behind 4 runway airport at Luton:

· Minimal loss of homes

· Thameslink would serve the station with a frequent central London Service from 2018

· Crossrail 2 would link directly to new terminals with journey time of 25 mins to Euston

· New road link between M1 and A1M serves airport

· Well connected to the regions – both east and west sides of the country

· New service road serves hotels offices and other support facilities.

· Two new terminals connected by airport shuttle allow phased development

· Utilises Luton’s existing runway which can continue to operate as existing until first new terminal is complete

· Hotels offices & other support could grow to the south

· The existing terminal will become servicing / technical area once T1 operating

· 150m + passengers per year

Chris Williamson:

“A new four runway airport at Luton is by far the best solution. Thameslink and the new north south Crossrail 2 would link directly to the new terminals with journeys directly to Euston in 25 minutes .New junctions to the M1 and the A1 offer excellent connectivity. The new airport would provide essential London World Class facilities.

Luton is the the sensible location. Anyone coming from the North or Midlands can get there by car or the planned improved train links. We are currently working on Crossrail 2 and would advocate taking that into the heart of the Airport. If you programmed a computer to position the best place for a World Class airport, it would choose Luton. It might actually choose Milton Keynes but Luton has and International Airport already. Why would you choose Stansted stuck out in the East of the country. It has a good spur link to Liverpool Street and Tottenham Hale but nowhere else.”
