MAI MIYAKE atelier

MAI MIYAKE atelier

Fumihiko Sano Studio as Architects

This is the studio of Miyake Mai, an artist who continues to express the essence of Japan's unique sensibility.A former warehouse space of about 100 square meters with a ceiling height of 5 meters was renovated as a studio and meeting space.

The overall design of the space is Japanese, given Miyake's style, but in order to accommodate the use as an atelier and the spatial characteristics of the former warehouse, the materials and the dimensions were enlarged to create not only a delicate but also a shoin-style space that is not defeated by the large space of the warehouse.

On the wall side, a large storage space with a Japanese design like a closet was created by using the existing steel members from the former warehouse. The width of the alcove arranged to be continuous with the storage can be adjusted by sliding doors so that various shapes and numbers of artworks can be displayed and studied in the alcove.

On the shelves beside the floor, Miyake's collection of antiques, miscellaneous goods and crafts as well as his own works are displayed to express his unique view of the world.
