Embarking on the redesign of a corporate client’s London headquarters, we delved into the architectural narrative woven by the original construction in 1952. Guided by a profound respect for the building's storied past, we aimed to seamlessly interweave modern aesthetics with an enduring mid-century allure.
We introduced commanding, dark walnut full-height cabinets inspired by 1950s elegance. Placed strategically, these structures resembled monolithic boulders in a landscape, delineating meeting areas while discreetly concealing office and IT essentials behind the bespoke joinery. Glazed slots punctuate the officescape serving to create an open and inviting atmosphere, not merely serving a functional purpose but also amplifying the sense of openness.
Addressing the client's brief for versatile meeting spaces, we installed pivot double doors, this offers the client the option to transform a lounge meeting space from open to closed as required. These doors discreetly retreat into pockets in the wall, offering an exquisite solution to adapt the workspace to the ever-evolving demands of contemporary office dynamics.
To further enhance the cohesiveness of the interior, we opted for a continuous textured cork floor that provides a monolithic foundation, adding both visual appeal and comfort. Complementing this foundational choice, we curated mid-century furniture pieces with discernment, ensuring a harmonious blend with the overarching aesthetic and finishes.
The absence of superfluous ornamentation defined our approach, opting instead for the clean, crisp lines emblematic of the 1950s. Each detail paid homage to the era's simplicity, accentuating the intrinsic elegance of the period.
In our redesign of this office headquarters, we strived to honour the building's 1950s heritage while infusing it with contemporary functionality. The result is a space that radiates both timeless elegance and adaptive versatility, embodying the essence of our commitment to meticulous design and narrative continuity.
