McLaren Port Huron North Tower Renovation

Modernizing without interruption to care

HED as Architects

The latest step in a long series of campus expansions and renovations in recent years, the renovation of McLaren Port Huron’s North Tower affects more than 90,000 square feet of existing space, including 165 patient rooms. This facility required modern updates to two patient room floors, cardiovascular examination and testing suite, and quality control and nursing education suite.

The complete tower renovation project was made possible after the campus’ recent south tower addition created additional space for the relocation of key operational spaces on site. In the renovation undertaking, many semi-private patient rooms were converted to private rooms, allowing for more complex care and increasing patient privacy. The result is a highly modernized healthcare space that has been well-received since its opening this year.

The renovation of this northern tower followed the design aesthetics established by the south tower, helping create a better-connected campus aesthetic. This was not limited to the interior of the building; dated precast concrete window surrounds were replaced with larger windows matching the south tower, providing additional light to those indoors while exhibiting a more modern facade to patients and visitors approaching from the main entrance drive.
