Meru Dermatology Clinic

A dermatologist came to us with a clear intention: her clinic should feel like more than a medical facility. Patients should feel genuinely cared for the moment they walk in. Set within a four-storey building in a busy district of Hyderabad, the brief called for an interior that was inviting, intimate, and quietly distinct from the clinical aesthetic typical of healthcare spaces.

Concept Note

At 2,000 sq ft, the space demanded thoughtfulness over scale. The design response was rooted in softness, an antidote to the hard edges and fluorescent anxiety of conventional clinics. Curves became the primary design language: not as decoration, but as a way of creating comfort, guiding movement, and signalling care.
The waiting room greets visitors with restraint, a clean backdrop in soft pastel green anchored by brand graphics. The rectangular footprint gently curves at the threshold to the corridor, nudging patients forward organically rather than directing them mechanically.
The corridor connecting the waiting area to the consultation and procedure rooms is deliberately calm. In the absence of natural light, uplighting washes the walls without glare, and a green accent strip drawn from the clinic's brand palette runs its length, tying the experience together.
Overhead, the existing beam grid was left exposed but refined: edges filleted, the grid's rigidity softened. Light inlaid at the centre completes the transformation, a ceiling that reads as considered rather than unfinished, and preserves the full height of the space.

The project extended beyond interiors to include the clinic's visual identity. The logo fuses two silhouettes, the profile of a face and the outline of a mountain range, a reference to Mount Meru, the clinic's namesake. Curves thread through the mark as they do through the space. The broader palette draws from natural elements associated with skin health and healing, giving the brand a grounded, organic character.

Design Process

Because the clinic had no prior identity, the process began with first principles: understanding how patients experience healthcare spaces, and what intimacy looks like at an architectural scale. The goal was not the efficiency of a commercial practice, but the attentiveness of a personal one.

The central design challenge was reconciling curved forms with a rigid rectangular plan while keeping circulation simple. A six-foot corridor runs through the heart of the space, with procedure rooms on one side and consultation rooms on the other. Each decision, the lighting, the ceiling treatment, the palette, served the same intent: to make a person feel, from the moment they enter, that they are in good hands.
