Designed to be a contemporary escape, a 1150 Sq. Ft apartment in Byculla, Mumbai is a testament to subtle and elegance-filled residential design. Crafted carefully by the designer Yaquta Nomani of Yaquta Nomani Designs, this project took 6 months to come to fruition. Aptly named Minimalist Haven, the apartment was crafted to align with the client’s desire for a clutter-free, present-day space with sophistication at its core. With an emphasis on clean lines, muted color palette, and exquisite materials, the designer successfully created a tranquil environment in the house, proving that true luxury lies in simplicity.
A masterful blend of warmth and modernity, the living room in the Minimalist Haven welcomes one with a sense of calm. The wall panelling and TV unit are synchronized for cohesiveness where the wall panelling is crafted with deluxe veneer and vertical MDF fluted panels. This subtle texture is well complemented by the bronze mirror on the TV unit. The TV unit features the same amalgamation of veneer and fluted panelling. The space is bestowed with thoughtful openness using the floating TV unit and console that help keep the floor space clear. The room’s serenity is further amplified by the earthy-toned sofa and a center table with marble top. The adjacent dining area featuring a dining table with marble top and veneer-finished legs adds to the simplicity achieved by the muted, earthy tones. The crockery unit acting as a backdrop to the dining table is made with veneer and provides both storage and display space.
Envisioned as a sanctuary of comfort, the master bedroom in this Byculla abode is a blend of a muted color palette. Established on the grounds of beiges, whites, and browns, the designer ensured that a soothing feeling lingers in the space. The rich veneer finish on the wardrobe and bed infuses the room with warmth, while the upholstered leather finish on the king-size bed and headboard adds a layer of opulence-filled texture.
The accent wall behind the bed, a standout feature is made using HDMR laser-cut panels in a square pattern. Finished with concrete texture, the panels bestow a striking yet laid-back aesthetic to the room. The bed is framed by the fluted HDMR panels on each side paired with unique onyx wall lights. The wardrobe mindfully crafted with veneer, leather accents and brass hardware refine the room in a distinct manner. The thoughtful utilization of varied textures and materials ensure that monotony doesn’t have a space in this house with an otherwise monochromatic color scheme.
Serving the purpose while maintaining the harmony with other spaces in the house, the kids’ bedroom brings along contrast. Introducing a pop of color, the room’s minimal design is enlivened by a mood board incorporating greens, whites and wood as its key material. The room’s area is functionally maximized by two twin beds placed adjacent to each other. The beds are upholstered in a soft suede, and a headboard featuring a vibrant geometric fabric adds a playful focal point. The wardrobe, finished in veneer, includes a flute panel at the base with a lustre paint finish, echoing the fluted element from the living room. The green fluted panels and the use of geometric patterns add fun to the calmness, while the clean and minimal furniture ensure the room remains easy to use. The smart use of color and texture balance functionality with aesthetics, elevating the designer’s vision and the client’s desire.
The Minimalist Haven symbolises a powerful merger. A merger of the rich materials like veneer, bronze mirrors, and MDF flute panels, exquisite lighting and subtle colors. All these design elements were brought together to tie the house into a minimalist sanctuary. A seamless collaboration between the client and the designer paved the way for success. The serene color palette transports the users into another dimension where they are offered a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of Mumbai.
With the client’s brief for a clutter-free space and establishing a minimal ambience as the guiding principles, Yaquta Nomani Designs, envisioned an apartment that serves as a modern minimal residence. With significance on quality and simplicity, the outcome achieved was a luxurious and timeless home. Ultimately, Minimalist Haven stands as a stunning example of how less is truly more.
