Studio Maré, led by architect Lívia Leite, is responsible for the renovation of the MJM Apartment, a 145 m² apartment located in Brooklin, São Paulo. The update marks a new phase for the residence: in 2018, the firm had created the original project for the parents of the current resident; now, in 2025, the property receives a new look to accommodate the young couple and their three-year-old son. The works began in August 2025, with completion scheduled for September of the same year.
The focus of the intervention was on adapting the spaces to the family's routine, with special attention to the social area. In the living room, the main transformation was the creation of a bookcase designed by the firm, which embraces the television and runs the entire width of the room, visually integrating the two terraces. At the center of this continuous structure, a discreet door leads to the private area, reinforcing the spatial fluidity. The choice of a Botteh rug completes the new living area, introducing texture and elegantly defining the living space.
To furnish the living room, dining room, and main balcony, Estúdio Maré selected contemporary pieces that balance comfort and lightness. The second balcony was converted into a space dedicated to the son, creating a safe area for play and daily activities. The kitchen retained its original configuration, receiving only new lighting, while the powder room received updated paint and a more contemporary mirror design.
In the private area, all the carpentry solutions were designed by the firm. The former guest room gave way to the children's room, planned to grow with the child and offer functionality without losing its playful character. The master bedroom received a new headboard, bed, bedside tables with dedicated lighting, and a color palette chosen in collaboration with the residents, bringing greater comfort to the space.
The renovation of the MJM apartment reflects the adaptation of the property to the needs of the new family structure, updating key areas and reorganizing uses for the daily lives of the couple and their son, without altering the original structure of the apartment.
