The main goal of the Contemporary Art Centre is to bring the public, art and artists closer together. For the public the building is not only about experiencing art, but also about interacting with art and understanding art.

For artists the building provides a place where they can exhibit their work, create their work, sell their work and meet other artists. This building is a dynamic place where the program can change every day.

There is room for activities like performances, design workshops, literature, fashion shows or one could come just for a drink and enjoy the environment.

What makes the building unconventional is not its form or shape, but the way it interacts with the public domain. Seen frontally from the street the art centre is experienced as one volume, but seen from the park and the square the building is divided into four separate building masses.

The four building masses greatly increase the total amount of façade and so allowing more interaction between the program and the outside. In between the volumes there are corridors that establish a direct open relationship between the park, the building and the square.

To emphasize the connection between the park and the square the continuation of the corridors is materialized in both directions. From the corridors a pattern of skylights extends onto the square giving light to the parking garage during the day and illuminating the square itself at night. In the park the extension of the corridors defines the circulation movement and at the same time parallel zones of outdoor activities.

The art center hosts very different types of programs, from exhibitions to sale related activities. The main goal of the art centre is to bring the public in contact with art, by showing the different steps existing in between these programs: from art exhibition, to art production, art sale and art education.

The visitor can choose to visit the museum only, or get a glimpse of the city from the roof terrace, visiting galleries, showrooms or the atelier spaces where artists can produce and sell their work.

The Contemporary Art Center wants to be more than an art container. It will be a place where new art will be created by Polish and international artists. It will be a place where freedom will take shape. It will be a platform for exchange of knowledge related to civilization as a whole. It will participate to the construction of a contemporary Polish consciousness by shortening that distance between art and society that for political reason has been established during the last century.

In a moment of redefinition of national identity, the building attempts to reflect Poland as we know today: open, inviting, in dialogue, exchanging, looking to the future.
