The idea for a piece of furniture often begins with a conversation.
From the materials we are drawn to and the colours we prefer, to the small habits that shape everyday life, what begins as a vague idea gradually takes form.
For this bespoke furniture studio, we wanted to create a setting that accommodates an extensive range of material selections while allowing conversations to unfold naturally. The space is organised into two connected areas: a materials library and meeting area on one side, and a more relaxed reception setting with sofas, coffee tables and a bar counter on the other.
Dark timber extends along the walls of the materials library, bringing fabric swatches, colour samples and various finishes together in a continuous display. Open shelving alternates with closed cabinetry, giving the extensive collection a clear sense of order. Against the dark wood, subtle differences in colour and texture become more apparent, creating a richly layered yet composed interior.
At the centre, a generous meeting table provides ample room for material selection and discussion. The surrounding chairs have been thoughtfully chosen for their distinct forms and finishes, while soft lighting lends warmth and an approachable quality to the professional setting.
The track lighting is deliberately suspended below the structural ceiling, directing illumination towards the furniture and display areas. As the upper structure recedes into the dark background, attention shifts to the textures of the materials and the human scale of the furnishings.
Moving into the adjoining area, sofas, coffee tables and a rug define a comfortable seating space. Soft upholstery and an open furniture arrangement balance the visual weight of the dark timber, inviting visitors to settle in and experience how different pieces relate to one another and to the surrounding space.
Nearby, the bar counter continues the earthy colour palette. A curved, stone-patterned wall sits alongside translucent glass blocks, introducing subtle variations in texture and form while maintaining a sense of continuity throughout the interior.
From fabric samples spread across the meeting table to an unhurried moment on the sofa, selecting, trying and talking each find their place.
Here, there is room to explore the possibilities of materials, colours and spaces, and simply to sit, linger and enjoy the experience of being there.
