The project is part of a larger housing development around a rocky hill at Nacka strand, east of stockholm centre. The big challange of the project has been to handle the big differences in levels due to the dramatic topography. The design idea was to use that very prerequisite to give shape to the volumes while also miltigating the impact of the building heights towards the street. The choice of glaced bricks for the cladding of the facade was there from the very beginning in the winning proposial of the architects competition back in 2016. 

Initially all building volumes were thought to be in different shades of green as a projection of the densly vegetated hill behind, but a contrasting color was introduced to fulfill the wish from the planning department for more variation. Red was chosen to mirror the many brick buildings in the area stemming from it's industrial heritage. In similar way the grey glazed brick at the base of the buildings mirror the shade of the street.

In combination with the actual reflections of sky and surrounding that the glazed surfaces give, the buildings blend in well in the surroundings despite their height and overall scale. The buildings contain in all 60 dwelling units ranging from 1 to 4 bedrooms planned efficiently with a high ratio of bedrooms per sqm.

The dark areas in the lower floors are used for bicycle parking with workshop storage units for the dwellings. There is also a comon area including sauna and relax space. On street level there is a space for a shop or small office. To find the right color nuances for the glaced bricks aswell as the right detailing (i.e. corners) we had an ongoing dialogue with sto. For us it turned out bot instructive and sucessfull.
