NAPOLEON MUSEUM

chartier-corbasson architectes as Architects

The aim of the project is to reinvest, reinvent and to create a new identity for the existing building that would be in continuity with its history and in resonance with its future. The intent is moreover for it to be an intersection, and that is to say, a space of meetings, experimentations, creations and sharing. In fewer words, a place of possibilities. Creating a place like that requires engaging dialogue and debates. The duality of the exhibition spaces as demanded in the program, a History and a contemporary and Fine Arts exhibitions, seemed to be based on a division that relies on the architectural typology of the existing spaces. The project thus takes its intake in this duality, a dual approach built on visual paradoxes: a respect for the place and its historical identity that crosses a very contemporary, even off beat look, provoking an unexpected dialogue and new perspectives that aims to awaken the visitor’s curiosity. As it is known, the identity of the museum is, in core, a place of memory and recollection. The project adds a twist to it by introducing immediately a contemporary intake. Each sequence is treated as a whole, as a single exhibition whose theme manufactures and composes its own atmosphere. However, the spaces between architectural sequences are also articulations of content, meaning and emotions establishing a continuous dialogue.
