The project pursues the recovery and re-use of a small portion of an old warehouse of the '500 located in a building near the Old Port of Genoa, transformed into a residence in 1800. It was originally a portion of the salt stores and tobacco (which still exist and are used for public functions by the Municipality of Genoa), in which were stored the goods on arrival and departure from the commercial port. The building is in fact part of a municipal district created by the City of Genoa in 1500 and only partly used for residential use. It is characterized by stone masonry / brick and wooden floors made from wood of chestnut in part coming from the recovery of pre-industrial masts of the ships. The construction system of the part behind the building (today perceptible as double terraced) is characterized by a dual system of arcs that overlap to 4 levels of the building (4 are recovered in the study) that support the system of horizontal elements in wood. The front part is instead characterized by a single large space of 4.7 mt. 6.5 in length, about 5.2 meters high. The project rifunzionalizza the old warehouse (now housing until the 90's), transforming it into architectural office of LDA Studio since 2003. Seeks to enhance the memory of the pre-industrial space and seek the protection of the identity of constructive logic and material property that is immediately perceptible to those who enter and moves in the study. The new, compared to the old, it is immediately obvious since it is made with slabs and steel railings white. The working space is, therefore, totally open, and reinterpreting the old warehouse with no divisions and partitions, and to allow all employees to belong to a single working environment interacting on various projects. The exception is the small meeting room which is inserted into a small portion of the property bounded by large windows that try not to interrupt existing architectural space but rather to give it continuity. The service system has been reduced to the essentials and then inserted under the staircase connecting the two levels of the office where he was also a small archive also expected not to saturate the available space and perceived by visitors to study or work there. A system of steel bridges is developed on the second level resulting fully open so as to represent a distance / balcony on the space below. The new route interacts with the first level and features architectural space giving it new architectural movement.
