Peking Garden is one of Maxim’s Chinese Cuisine’s most established and acclaimed restaurants, known for serving authentic provincial fare with a focus on traditional Peking recipes. As part of a brand renewal initiative, the Pacific Place branch was renovated to provide guests with a refreshed dining experience —balancing contemporary spatial expression with cultural continuity. The updated interiors coincide with a new culinary direction that combines refined plating with long-standing signature dishes, including the restaurant’s world-famous Peking duck.

The design draws on classical Chinese architectural motifs, reinterpreted through a restrained and modern language. Carefully detailed timber panelling lines the main dining areas, establishing a rhythm of verticality and warmth. A refined coffered ceiling system integrates lighting with an asian inspired, contemporary geometric timber lattice, referencing traditional construction techniques while maintaining visual lightness.

A notable feature is the sculptural lighting installation positioned above one of the big round tables in the central dining zone. Decorative lanterns—mesh-encased and enclosing delicate floral forms—introduce a crafted, poetic, ethereal quality. These pieces serve both as a focal point and as a quiet homage to traditional Chinese handcrafts, such as embroidery and paper artistry.

Material variation plays a key role in spatial sequencing. Circulation areas feature textured stone and slate-toned flooring, contrasting with the warmth of timber-lined rooms and soft furnishings in camel and ochre tones. A wall of illuminated cast-iron teapots offers a sculptural display that quietly anchors the tea service tradition in a contemporary setting.

Private dining rooms introduce additional richness through custom artwork, patterned carpets, and bespoke furniture. Subtle shifts in tone and detail create layers of intimacy without breaking the overall coherence of the design language.
